Your wedding day is a celebration of you—your personality, your love story, and your unique vibe as a couple. It’s not about following trends just for the sake of it, or meeting everyone else’s expectations. The best personalized weddings feel authentic, thoughtful, and true to who you are. It’s about creating a day that reflects your values, your style, and your story—so much so that your guests leave saying, “That was so them.” When you personalize your wedding in a way that truly feels like you, it becomes unforgettable.
It can feel challenging to envision your day and make sure you include everything that is important to you, without falling into outside pressure (some of us experience more pressure from people than others do!)
With that in mind, here are five ways to confidently infuse your personality into your big day and make it truly unforgettable.
Start by thinking about what makes you you. What are the little quirks, styles, or passions that define your relationship? Maybe you’re a retro-loving duo who can’t get enough of vinyl records and vintage vibes. Why not incorporate record players as centrepieces or curate a playlist full of your favorite oldies?
Or, if you’re a couple who loves adventure, you could add subtle nods to your travels—like naming your tables after destinations you’ve visited together, showcasing your photos, or choosing a unique, unforgettable venue for your party.
For one of my couples, their loved ones were the focus. They paid homage to family members who had passed in a beautiful display, to make sure their presence was included in their wedding (below).
These thoughtful touches are what help you personalize your wedding—turning a standard celebration into something that feels unmistakably yours. From the décor to the music to the photography, every detail should reflect your style and your story. When you lean into what you love, your wedding becomes more than a trend—it becomes a true reflection of your journey together.
Do you want your wedding to feel both timeless and unique to you? Learn how in my blog on just this topic!
What kind of atmosphere do you want for your wedding? Fun and playful? Formal and elegant? Editorial and chic? Your vibe sets the tone for the day and helps guide all the decisions you’ll make.
If you’re not really sure what vibe you’re going for, ask yourself: In an ideal world, what would you love to say about your wedding afterwards? That it was elegant and fancy? That it was as much fun as you were hoping it would be? That the venue was magical and intimate, and you enjoyed the conversations and connections you made with everyone there? And by extension, what experience do you want your guests to be left with?
Once you figure that out, you can focus on how to make it happen. For example, if you want a fun and relaxed vibe, you might focus on candid photos of your guests laughing, dancing, and enjoying the moment. One of my couples even included their cats in their wedding! They named signature cocktails after their furry friends and added cat motifs throughout the décor. It was such a playful, personal touch that helped them personalize their wedding in a way that was truly unforgettable.
On the other hand, if you’re going for a more editorial or formal aesthetic, you might prioritize dramatic lighting, sleek design elements, and posed shots that look straight out of a magazine. Whatever your vibe is, embrace it fully—it’s what will make your wedding feel like you.
Let’s get one thing straight: You don’t have to do anything on your wedding day that doesn’t feel right for you. Don’t love the idea of a bouquet toss? Skip it. Not into the first dance? That’s okay too.
I speak to a lot of couples who stress over how to include all the important moments. My recommendation? Pick a few that are the most you. Not only will you remember them better in the swirl of the day, but the photos and videos that capture these special moments will always make you smile, not cringe.
Your wedding day should be a collection of moments that bring you joy—not a checklist of traditions you feel obligated to follow. By saying “no” to things that don’t resonate, you’re making space for the things that truly matter to you.
On that note, every couple has different priorities for their wedding day. Some want to showcase every tiny detail they’ve carefully chosen—from the floral arrangements to the table settings. Others care more about the experience—making sure their guests feel the love and energy in the room. That’s the beauty of how you can personalize your wedding—it looks different for everyone.
There is no right or wrong way to have a wedding! Some of my brides have an amazing sense of aesthetic and pick out every single detail with precision. They want their guests to gasp and admire the decor and the beauty of the space. Others want everyone to dance to the best music, and just feel right at home. For others, connecting family and friends, and watching new relationships blossom and grow are important.
Think about what’s most important to you. Do you want your photographer to capture the intricate details of your design? Or do you want more candid moments of your friends and family enjoying the day? Whatever your focus, make sure your vendors are on the same page and ready to bring your vision to life.
Your wedding day is a team effort, so surround yourself with vendors who understand your vibe and are committed to making it happen. A wedding planner can help you design a day that feels cohesive and intentional, while your photographer/videographer (that’s me!) is there to document the magic in a way that feels true to you.
I always tell my couples: My job isn’t just to take pretty pictures. It’s to tell your story. Whether it’s capturing the look on your partner’s face as you walk down the aisle or snapping photos of the tiny details that make your day unique, I’m here to advocate for your vision and make sure it comes to life in the photos you’ll treasure forever.
Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of your love story—and it should feel like you. By leaning into your personality, defining your vibe, letting go of traditions that don’t resonate, and focusing on what matters most, you’ll personalize your wedding in a way that’s as unique and unforgettable as your relationship.
You might be reading this blog and thinking, but my family members have so many opinions. If I don’t integrate what’s important to them into my wedding day, they’ll never forgive me. I hear you. And I can also say from years of observation and experience, that the thing that matters most and stays in everyone’s minds is that you were happy and enjoyed yourself on your wedding day. Other people who care about you can easily get caught up in details, but the small choices of what you did or did not do probably won’t be remembered years from now. And if they are? I would say that is your loved one’s issue, and not yours.
And trust me—when you look back on your photos years from now, you’ll be so glad you stayed true to yourselves. So, let’s make some magic together and bring your vibe to life!
